PRODUCT FAQ

Where are you based?

Whilst we are in many aspects a global business, Angeleen and Victoria are based in Naarm, Melbourne. This business has largely been imagined on the unceded lands of the Kulin Nation.

Our artists are scattered globally, our candles are made in Boorloo, Perth & our holders are crafted in China.

Why does my candle holder look imperfect?

Experienced and skillful makers based in China create our concrete candle holders. A mould is used to create the holder and is then poured, rested and demoulded. Due to the nature of the material, as well as the intricate design of the artwork, these products are not perfect. Imperfection is to be expected on an artisanal product with this level of detail.

Why does my candle refill look imperfect?

Similar to the holders, our candles are made in molds. A specially formulated performance wax is induced with 7.5% fragrance and essential oil to create our custom blends. Due to the nature of wax, these refills are not always perfectly smooth. These are a hand crafted product, each poured, rested and de-moulded specifically for Meltdown Studio.

Why does the wax colour vary?

Slight colour variations in wax colour are nothing to be concerned about,  the product is of the same high quality you can come to expect from Meltdown Studio.

These variances can be due to the oils used in the candle refills and how they react to each other and oxidise over.

Why did you select the wax used in the re-fill?

The refills are made up primarily of natural soy bean wax. Blended with smaller portions of sustainably sourced, certified palm wax, premium grade paraffin wax and a unique plant-based additive. This type of wax was chosen due to a higher sweating point than other waxes on the market, allowing for superior performance in a variety of conditions. It features a higher fragrance tolerance, ensuring a stronger scent profile.

This wax has a smooth set both pre- and post-burn, anti-sweating properties and fantastic oil absorption, resulting in an amazing hot and cold scent throw. The wax remains hard, durable, and smooth, making it perfect for moulds.

How do I remove the excess wax between candles?

  • After you have burnt down your wax refill to the last 1cm, it is finished and ready to be replaced with a new refill.
  • Fill the candle holder with warm water and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • The warm water will soften the wax, making it easier to wipe away with a paper towel or cloth.
  • Use a blunt tool to break up the wax. While the holder is durable, avoid using sharp objects that could scratch or damage the candle holder.
  • Wash the candle holder with warm, soapy water to remove any leftover wax and cleaning agents. Dry it thoroughly before using it again.
  • These are two best ways to remove the excess wax from your candle holder after you have burnt down your refill. A combination of both methods is also recommended if your wax is being difficult.
